Pop-Up Canopy and Tent Weight Installation The easiest way to install a pop up canopy and tent weight is to use a tent or canopy weight. The pop-up canopy can be assembled on a variety of surfaces, including grass, gravel, pavement, stone patio or wooden deck. If you are looking for an easy solution to secure your pop-up canopy in high winds, canopy or tent weights can be used. To allow room to open up, you may need to step backwards. To spread the frame open as far as possible, pull out the legs at the same time. Make sure you do not over-tighten or you will have to re-drill holes in trunk to get it back in place. You can also use a small piece or two of cardboard to help you lift it up. The canopy should be about 1/2 inch thick. If you are using plastic, make sure it is not too thick or it will be difficult to remove. Place the trunk on the ground and secure it with a piece of wood or plastic.
